1981 g1 ignition issue

Postby bannana » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:34 pm

Hello, i baught a used g1 and cant get it to run, i have read the forums extensivly and cannot find a solution, I bought this from a friend that used it without flaw iuntil the day i bought it. when i went to pick it up in the morning it wouldnt start, but ran the night before, i have replaced spark plug boot, crank seals, new cylander(compression was 105psi and already bored to 1.00mm) new piston and rings and now have 125 psi. i have tested all wiring to eliminate this portion, all voltages and ohnms and cont. checks out according to what is in this forum. spark is very bright and will throw a 1/2 inch spark, carb has been carefully and maticulasly cleaned and seat is holding back fuel, the engine will try to run but when it tries to fire, it will lock up for a split second and the continue to turn over, it seems as though the engine is fighting it self, bought a new spark plug the cart shop recommended, dont know what # it is off hand but do you know the champion # for this cart?it gets worse if you try to give it more fuel if you pull the choke it will not even try to fire, mechanic that changed the crank seals marked the timing plate before he took in off and replaced it back to original location, could it be possible that the timing has somehow moved during the time days before i purchased it. i have had the flywheel off and saw the mark he made and also checked the screws for tightness, i cant believe the mechanic didnt get the timing off because it was having this problem before i took it to him, is there a simple way to check the timing? i have also checked the reeds and they are in good condition, also replaced all gaskets.

I am having the same problem with my G9. I have replaced the ignitor and the coil. It still won't start. Have you solved your problem yet ?
